Sermon of Saint Anthony to the fish / Alminhas
Originally located on the Calçada do Jogo da Pela, near Martim Moniz (parish of Santa Maria Maior), this tile panel dates from the first half of the 17th century and illustrates a well-known episode from the life and miracles of Saint Anthony: the preaching to the fish, which were more open to the saint's preaching than the heretics of Rimini, an Italian coastal city.
Below the main panel is a set of four tiles dedicated to souls in Purgatory, depicted in an attitude of supplication, asking passers-by to pray for those in transit.
